HoHo Abacus

My school is a magnet school that focuses on math, technology, and Spanish. This is a video that combines a math project and a tech project. My students and my partner’s students LOVED doing this as a good reminder how to do place value and expanded notation. Here is one thing that they said about it…
Most people believe it is difficult to understand place value. But the way I learned was easy. We made an abacus using noodles, Fruit Loops and Hoho. We rolled dice, expanded notation, created the abacus. Finally we ate the abacus. It was delicious. Learning about place value was fun!
